Official News BOG, March 2004
The Residents' Official News BOG was a news blog maintained by Big Brother of The Cryptic Corporation beginning in August 2003 (originally titled The Residents' Official News Blog and Website Wrapper), following the company's purchase of the residents.com domain name from fan site RZWeb (now defunct).
Around March 2004, this blog became known as the Official News BOG. In this form, the blog became The Cryptics' (and thus, The Residents') main outlet for communication with their fans until the website's redesign in 2008.
This page collects posts made to this news blog in March 2004, as archived on archive.org, transcribed to this wiki by a Mysterious Spanish Lady.

The King & Eye: RMX
- In 1989 The Residents recorded an album of Elvis hits called The King & Eye. Anyone knowing The Residents work would not be surprised that there was no attempt at recreating the original arrangements. In fact a great deal of work went into rethinking the music and digging into the freudian aspects of the lyrics. The group wished to return the pain to the material which swirls around ideas of lost love and obsession. The album was tied together with a children's story about a baby who wanted to be king because he felt such deep emptyness.
- The Residents saw Elvis's life as a cautionary tale. A story of lost innocence, misplaced while searching for night time shadows. Even more amazing to The Residents, in death, Elvis became the ultimate Americana icon.
- In 2003, The Residents asked German remix whiz, PARALYZER, to listen to the original 24 track master and see what he would do to moderize their album to make it more relevant to life in the 21st century. Paralyzer accepted the challenge but asked that the group give him free rein to interprete the pieces. They excitedly agreed.
- The Residents only heard the result when Paralyzer finally presented his vision of Elvis to them, The King & Eye: RMX.

Beware the Eyed of March
- The Residents need some of you to help them. And some of you might need The Residents' help as well. All will be explained on the Ides of March.
- By the way...
- Every month has Ides. The Romans did not count the days of the month from 1 through 30. Instead, three days in every month had names:
- Kalends (1st day of the month)
- Nones (the 7th day in March, May, July, and October; the 5th in the other months)
- Ides (the 15th day in March, May, July, and October; the 13th in the other months)
- The remaining, unnamed days of the month were identified by counting backwards from the Kalends, Nones, or the Ides. For example, March 3 would be V Nones—5 days before the Nones (the Roman method of counting days was inclusive; in other words, the Nones would be counted as one of the 5 days). It was complicated.
- Shakespeare's famous line of "Beware of the Ides of March" is based on an earlier writing, Marcus Brutus, by Plutarch written at the time of the actual assassination of Caesar.
- "So what," you say? So nothing. I just thought it interesting, but here's an oddity for the obscurest fans just for paying attention. If you don't know what is "wrong" with this snip, you are not a true obscurest fan.

The Commercial DVD
- A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR
- Work has begun on a new DVD as a spin-off of 1980’s The Commercial Album. Though The Residents will be making lots of new one-minute movies for this project, there is just no way they can make movies for all 40, and they would like to have more than 40 if possible.
- The usual animation and film artists you have seen on CD-Rom and DVD projects in the past will be creating their special minutes. But even then, there are scores of movies needing to be made.
- As you know, Ralph America has run a couple of contests seeing what you people would do creating some art. So now, we here at Cryptic Corp. are wondering if maybe there is some talent out there in the animation, film making, video art arenas. If that makes you think we are talking about you, then continue to read.
- We feel we should stress that this is a professional though loosely conceived project and we are looking for special work in all styles.
- Here is an example:
- Bonne Nuit (800KB - 3GPP file requires the latest Quicktime)
- THE RULES:
- • If you have a reel of your work ready to show on CD-R or DVD, we will be happy to view it.
- • If you have no reel prepared but have professional work you can show, please put a few minutes on a CD-R or DVD and we will be happy to view it.
- • If you have no reel but have student work you can show, please put some on a CD-R or DVD and we will be happy to view it.
- • If you have no reel and no work to show but a really good idea, we don’t have enough time for you to learn the craft before we will need the work. Please do not send us anything, but start getting yourself in shape for the next time this offer comes around. More DVD’s are planned and there is always a need for fresh talent.
- • Only submissions made by the end of March will be considered, about two weeks from now.
- • We can’t watch super-8, VHS, or other formats that don’t slip into the CD/DVD tray on a computer.
- • If you have friends that might qualify, please invite them to send their reels.
- • And, oh yes, selected artists will only receive a small honorarium so don’t start thinking about getting wealthy. It is the usual scrounge-together project. But it is going to be cool.

Preaching to the Choir
- Yea, all of you already have this DVD so why should I bother running a bragging piece on it. Not likely that it will make you run out an buy another copy, right.
- Actually I just felt like putting something up on the bog. I mean, I know things. Like the King & Eye:RMX will be in stores around May 24th. That just seems so far away that if I were to tell you now you would just forget again. Or if I told you about the Viva Las Vegas (radio edit) that will be bundled with the King & Eye for the sale on Amazon in Germany, you would soon forget I said it. It is just too soon to say these things. So I keep my mouth shut. I'll give you some real news when I have some real news, and I don't think it will be too much longer until that day arrives.
