Official News BOG, October 2006
The Residents' Official News BOG was a news blog maintained by Big Brother of The Cryptic Corporation beginning in August 2003 (originally titled The Residents' Official News Blog and Website Wrapper), following the company's purchase of the residents.com domain name from fan site RZWeb (now defunct).
Around March 2004, this blog became known as the Official News BOG. In this form, the blog became The Cryptics' (and thus, The Residents') main outlet for communication with their fans until the website's redesign in 2008.
This page collects posts made to this news blog in October 2006, as archived on archive.org, transcribed to this wiki by a Mysterious Spanish Lady.

Tweedles coming in two product versions
- [broken image: twe%2dbaby.jpg]
- Are you Hard?
- Or are you Jeweled?
- Looks like Tweedles is coming out of Mute in two varieties, the Jewel Box and the Hard Bound book (like the other releases).
- Squeezed information has told me that the CD number for Tweedles is ----LCDSTUMM282---- where the "L" stand for "Limited." That means it is HARD BOUND. No L and it is a JEWEL BOX. But this is a European product number so I don't know about the USA or other territories. Still digging for info.
- Rumor is that only Hard Bound versions are coming to the USA.
- As we discovered in The Godfather, there are offers one cannot refuse.
- In the fall of 2005 The Residents got such an offer.
- A young gentleman in Romania had built himself a state of the art recording studio and had the wild dream of asking his favorite band, The Residents to try it out. As it happened, The Residents' own studio was undergoing a process known as seismic upgrade. In other words, strengthening the building to withstand a major earthquake. The group could not use the facility for a year.
- Fate had again stepped in and The Residents saw no reason not to have a look at the studio. The group boarded a jet for Bucharest in early 2006 with the idea of recording a couple of tracks while taking a nice vacation in a country they had never visited. Since no ideas had been formed in advance as to what would be recorded, they felt it was appropriate to record everything during the trip, including the jet's take off.
- However, once on the plane and bored, ideas started coming and soon The Residents were roughing out an idea for a whole album.
- The group understood that their ultimate destination was not Bucharest, but a town 400 kilometers away, Hunedoara. Hunedoara was in the area of Romania known as Transylvania, historically the home of Count Vlad III, fictionalized by Bram Stoker as the vampire Dracula. Count Vlad III had even been imprisoned in Hunedoara for seven years. By the time they landed in Bucharest, they had outlined an album about a "vampire" of sorts. Not a Bela Lugosi vampire, but one that feasted on broken hearts; a man who devoured the romantic emotions of others as a source of power. A man who took the stance that anyone who would stoop so low as to love him was not worth loving in return.
- As it turned out, the group fell in love with Hunedoara and as they produced their story of sexual compulsion, their impromptu recordings of street musicians, church bells and a small traveling circus soon made it into their electronic pieces. The circus had especially captured their attention with its strong Felliniesque presence. Additionally, The Residents product manager at Mute happened to be Romanian and he had connections with classical musicians in Bucharest. As a result, The Film Orchestra of Bucharest interpreted some of the group's electronic compositions and these recordings were also integrated into the new work.
- These compositions tended to focus less on harmonics and melody than their previous effort, Animal Lover, and could only be described as a patchwork of new and often exotic textures. For the group, this patchwork was the reflection of an often chaotic, but uniquely immersive experience.

Curiosity of the week -Atari game cart
- [broken image: atariepromweb.jpg]
- It is easy to assume that The Residents first entry into interactive media was the CDRom of Freak Show, but it is not even close to true. Here is a rare, if not one of a kind, game cart for the Atari 2600 for a Mark of the Mole video game. The game was never completed but this playable chip set lets one control Moles as they dig out musical notes from their underground lair. And yes, you don't have a lot of time as the storm clouds are building overhead.

Curiosity of the week -miniature "Miniatures"
- [broken image: miniaturesweb.jpg]
- One of the areas that I just can't get into for the HISTORICAL because of the vast amount of work for little importance, is the area of the "contribution." This is when The Residents have one track on a compilation of songs by many different people. A discography like the very excellent BACH IS DEAD will give you more insight into this world.
- But one project does stand out. Miniatures was a 1979 idea to have people record short songs. The Residents were working on The Commercial Album which already was a collection of short songs, so they decided to do a medley in one minute instead of a song in one minute. The song mashed The Ramones "We're a Happy Family" with "Bali Hi" from the Broadway show, South Pacific.
- The project came out as an LP as you would expect, but it also came out in a limited edition of 100 of a micro-cassette with slides of the cover and art. Here is a promo of the micro that I found in the Cryptic archives.

Tweedles arrives in (some) stores
- Tweedles with sleeve to protect the eyes of the more sensitive.

- The Residents Present Tweedles!, MUTE
- Reviewed by Andy Gill
- Published: 27 October 2006 - THE INDEPENDENT (London)
- Recorded at the invitation of a rich Romanian fan in his new studio, Tweedles! is The Residents' idea of a vampire story: not the bloodsucking kind, but a ruthless lover who preys on innocent souls - a sexual predator who also happens to be a clown called Tweedles. But of course. The result is a psychodrama of sexual compulsion that doesn't baulk at the psychopathic connotations of Tweedles's lack of empathy (he fantasises about being a serial killer; lest we forget, John Wayne Gacy worked as a children's clown entertainer), although its unflinching darkness may render it even tougher to engage with than previous Residents albums. The warped, otherworldly tone of their music, with its peculiar dialectical conflicts of comedy, tragedy and horror, is perfectly in keeping with such material; it's augmented here by locally recorded Romanian street musicians, church bells and even a travelling circus, and there are bleakly hysterical interjections by the Film Orchestra of Bucharest. Uneasy listening - and that's without even considering the risqué sleeve design...
