Official News BOG, October 2004
The Residents' Official News BOG was a news blog maintained by Big Brother of The Cryptic Corporation beginning in August 2003 (originally titled The Residents' Official News Blog and Website Wrapper), following the company's purchase of the residents.com domain name from fan site RZWeb (now defunct).
Around March 2004, this blog became known as the Official News BOG. In this form, the blog became The Cryptics' (and thus, The Residents') main outlet for communication with their fans until the website's redesign in 2008.
This page collects posts made to this news blog in October 2004, as archived on archive.org, transcribed to this wiki by a Mysterious Spanish Lady.

England's Dreaming
- The Residents have survived the ravages of time by evolving. This compilation reopens the old New Wave and Punk wounds and somehow The Residents are clearly no more comfortable here than they have been anywhere else. None the less, Jon Savage, noted Brit journalist, has compiled this intriguing CD that includes the pre-eyeball group doing "Beyond the Valley of a Day in the Life."
- There are 25 tracks - some reasonably well-known ones (Wire, Cabs, Siouxsie, Adverts, Iggy, Ramones, Devo, Buzzcocks)- some very obscure ones (Avergers, Diodes, Weirdos, Zeros, Urinals, Germs, Dils, Residents!)
- Included in the digipack is a booklet with a bit about each song, in English and German. Here's what it says about the Residents track:
- First issued on 45 during 1977 in a limited edition of 500, "Beyond the Valley..." answers the age-old musical question, what happens after the final crashing chord at the end of "Sgt Pepper"?, with a brilliant aural collage made entirely of existing Beatles recordings. In the context of the time, this was deeply iconoclastic (as the Beatles were one of the previous generation's idols to be overthrown) but today, "Beyond the Valley..." seems both like a fan's perverse love and an uncanny precursor of the sampling / mash-up culture to come
- Available Now on Trikont Records

- The Residents Missing Year
- The "missing year" apparently ran from late 1996 to summer 1997. It started after the completion of Bad Day on the Midway and the theatrical run of Freak Show in Prague. It ended with Disfigured Night.
- In between, one project dominated The Residents every waking moment.
- I Murdered Mommy.
- Designed to be the crowning glory of The Residents wild ride with CD-ROM, I Murdered Mommy became an insane vision. Even as The Residents labored to design and sell the idea, the whole CD-ROM market was collapsing around them. The project was finally shelved.
- The new release is a book of the drawings and writings for the project plus a CD of preliminary music that was used for the corporate sales pitches in the attempt to raise the funds to actually create the CD-ROM. It is an intriguing look at an idea that never happened as well as plug a hole in The Residents project time line. It will not be the actual CD-ROM, of course, as it never existed.

- * The French claim it was their idea, while the Belgians fiercely hold that it was one of their own. Expert opinion on this matter is divided as well. Whatever the case, by the 1830's deep fried potatoes had become a popular taste sensation in both France and Belgium. It took another hundred years for them to become a fast-food staple in the United States. Although Thomas Jefferson is rumored to have served them in Monticello as early as 1802—a daring thing to do at the time, since tubers were still believed to lead to death unless the poisons were boiled out of them—it was American soldiers, having been stationed in France (or Belgium, depending on who you ask) during World War I who brought back a hunger for the fried potatoes they had eaten while overseas. Although today fries are commonly eaten in many other countries, they are only associated with the French here in the U.S.

- ============================
- "On October 25th (Europe) and November 2nd (USA) Mute will re-issue one of the most relevant albums by The Residents. The Commercial Album comes in a special edition hardbook, containing previously unseen images from the forthcoming Commercial DVD and the lyrics for all 40 tracks.
- The DVD will comprehend an extensive collection of new videos alongside the four original promo clips.
- Created before the existence of MTV, the original 4 short movies were immediately in high rotation when the fledgling music channel began broadcasting in 1982, and were soon incorporated into the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Twenty Five years later, The Residents have lovingly undertaken the task of creating ten new one-minute videos, and commissioned more than 30 outstanding artists to join in the fun. The result is The Commercial Album DVD, containing 56 One Minute Movies* - a virtual film festival in a box. The menu includes a unique interactive maze interface and a fascinating surround sound texture."
- *The 56 videos include all 40 songs from the album, plus the 2 songs that were left off the album and appeared on singles in Europe, plus the original 4 Residents Videos from 1980 and 10 new Residents videos.

KRVS to Premier "I Murdered Mommy" Oct 18 & 23
- October 18 & 23:
- WHOOPY SNORP's First Fundraiser
- As you probably realize, KRVS is Public Radio which is supported by listeners (like you) to pay for programs from NPR, PBS, and independent producers, as well as the production of local and international programming like WHOOPY SNORP.
- KRVS is not just an internet radio station. It broadcasts regular radio programming (88.7 on your FM dial) to 650,000 people living in the Residents home state of Louisiana, bringing the fine music of The Residents to many homes that would be in cultural darkness otherwise.
- So on the 18th and 23rd you will hear a number of requests for financial support for the station. But you will also hear, in it's entirety, the soon to be released Residents CD, I Murdered Mommy.
- The CD contains the preliminary music that was used for the corporate sales pitches in the attempt to raise the funds to create the CD-ROM concept, I Murdered Mommy.
