The Talk of Creatures

From RZWiki

"The Talk of Creatures" is the thirty-fifth track from The Residents' Commercial Album, released on October 28th, 1980. Like all songs on the album, it is exactly one minute long. It features uncredited vocals by Hardy Fox.

History

The song was considered for a later-abandoned 10th anniversary live show around 1981. Two sketches from this project are known to exist; notably, no vocals are heard on this arrangement. This rendition was left off the Assorted Secrets release, only surfacing officially on the pREServed edition of the Commercial Album.

Music video

Still from the 2004 music video for The Commercial DVD.

A live-action/animation hybrid video for the song was created by Bulk Foodveyor and stop-motion animator Niffer Desmond (who also created the "Margaret Freeman" video and helped on the "Possessions" video) for the Commercial DVD in 2004.

Lyrics

Mumbling weighs upon my mind;
The talk of creatures in my spine.

A contest fought between two souls
to know which thought that each controls;
They argue deep into the night,
displaying wrongs, inciting rights;
They sing their songs with unknown tones
and keep the beat upon my bones.[1]
