"When We Were Young" is an instrumental by The Residents, the fortieth and final track on their seventh studio album Commercial Album, released by Ralph Records on October 29th 1980. Like all other songs on the album, it is exactly one minute long.

History

An animated video for the song was created by Serbian animation duo Veber Veber for the Commercial DVD in 2004.

A cover of the song by fan Jake Gonnella was featured on the vinyl edition of the 2018 tribute album I AM A RESIDENT.

In the summer of 2021, Homer Flynn and John Sanborn collaborated on a handful of homemade TikTok shorts incorporating the Commercial DVD videos through the use of an iPhone. This is one of the songs selected for that endeavor. The group's TikTok account has since been deleted, but the shorts have been archived on YouTube.

This song was performed on a few dates of the Faceless Forever 50th Anniversary tour in 2023; however it was left off the live album.
