This is an unofficial release, and has not been approved by The Residents or The Cryptic Corporation. THEY HATE IT!!!

The Dumpster Tapes is a bootleg compilation of unreleased material by The Residents, consisting mostly of live-in-the-studio rehearsals for a never-realized 1982 10th Anniversary live tour (previously documented on Assorted Secrets). The bootleg has circulated (primarily over the Internet) since at least 2010;[1] it is similar to the 2005 bootleg 19 Mysterious Tracks.

It also includes two tracks from the group's score to the Pee-wee's Playhouse episode "Open House", and two takes of "I Hear Ya Got Religion", one of their earliest known recordings, dating from 1969. A variant of The Dumpster Tapes has also circulated which includes the group's Commercial Single EP as a bonus track.

History

The Dumpster Tapes contains material by The Residents dating mostly from 1982, with most tracks originating from live-in-the-studio rehearsal sessions for a planned (but ultimately abandoned) 10th Anniversary live tour. Alternate takes from these sessions had been released on the limited edition compilation Assorted Secrets in 1984.

Aside from the 10th Anniversary rehearsals, The Dumpster Tapes also includes two takes of the 1969 Pre-Residents song "I Hear Ya Got Religion", previously released in a truncated edit on the compilation album dot.com in 2000, as well as two tracks from the group's soundtrack to the Pee-wee's Playhouse episode "Open House", titled "King of Cartoons" and "London Bridge". An alternate version of the bootleg has also circulated online, featuring all eight tracks from the group's 1980 Commercial Single EP as a single bonus track titled "Commercial Single Obnoxious".

The second version of "I Hear Ya Got Religion" on the bootleg was officially issued on the 2012 compilation ERA B474, as well as The Delta Nudes' Greatest Hiss in 2013 and The Residents Present The Delta Nudes in 2016. The first version of "Love Leaks Out" on the bootleg was officially released in 2019, as a bonus track on the pREServed expanded edition of Commercial Album.

The two Pee-Wee tracks appear to be taken from an earlier bootleg titled 'The Residents' The Peewee Herman Show', which contains 3 extra minutes not included on this bootleg, the majority of which being The Residents' cover of Stars & Stripes Forever.
