- 3rd: A live version of "Lizard Lady" (from Talking Light Bimbo's) is released under the Radio Thoreau project.
February
- 10th: Commercial Album and Commercial DVD are reissued by MVD.
- 24th: A trailer for Theory of Obscurity: A Film about The Residents is released.
March
- 10th: The Shadowland live album is released by MVD.
- 12th: The Residents perform Shadowland in Santa Cruz, California to celebrate the album's release.
- A new CD, Shadow Stories, a suite based on the story interludes from the show, is offered as a merch item for this date only.
- 20th: Theory of Obscurity is premiered at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, where The Residents also perform.
- Randy announces to the audience that this is Charles Bobuck's final show with the band.
- 22nd: Charles Bobuck confirms his retirement from touring with a free track titled "Walk Over". However, he states that he still plans to record with The Residents on studio-based projects.
April
- 7th: God in Three Persons is reissued by MVD.
- 10th: The 13th Anniversary Show: Live in the U.S.A. is reissued by Klanggalerie.
- 12th: Charles Bobuck releases Missing Soldiers, a collection of sketches for the abandoned "Civil War album," on his Bandcamp.
- 15th: Intermission is reissued on vinyl for Record Store Day.
May
- 5th: Our Finest Flowers is reissued by MVD.
- 23rd: One of The Residents' original eyeball masks is stolen. As of this date, it has not yet been recovered.
June
- 1st: Charles Bobuck releases As a Child I Sold the News, a suite comprised of outtakes from various solo projects, on his Bandcamp.
- 15th: The Snakey Wake is reissued on Klanggalerie (both studio and live versions).
- 16th: The Snakefinger live bootleg, Live in Melbourne 1981, is remastered and released by Secret Records with cover art by Molly Harvey.
August
- 6th: The Residents perform Shadowland in Katowice, Poland.
- Charles Bobuck's role as keyboardist is filled by his "cousin Rico."
September
- 2nd: Randy Rose's cat Maurice dies.
- 8th - 9th: The Residents perform Shadowland for two nights in Paris, France.
- 14th: The Residents perform Shadowland in Santiago, Chile.
- 17th: The Residents perform Shadowland in São Paulo, Brazil.
- 18th: The Residents perform Shadowland in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
- 18th: Wormwood is reissued by MVD.
October
- 1st: Charles Bobuck's third solo album, What Was Left of Grandpa, is released by Klanggalerie.
- 17th: Charles Bobuck offers a free suite, "Season of the Witch" (credited to Black Tar and the Cry Babies), for a limited time on his Bandcamp.
November
- 9th: Ian Shirley's book Never Known Questions — an update of his 1994 book Meet the Residents! — is published by Cherry Red Books.
- 18th: Randy Rose offers the Bad Day on the Midway novel for free on Amazon Kindle as a Thanksgiving gift. For the next couple of weeks, he would come up with several other excuses to continue offering the book for free.
December
- 10th: Strange Culture / Haeckel's Tale and The Rivers of Hades are packaged together for a Klanggalerie reissue.
