"A Horse With No Name" is a song by American folk rock trio America. Written by Dewey Bunnell, it was released on the Warner Bros. label in late 1971 in Europe and early 1972 in the United States. It was covered in The Residents 1976 album "The Third Reich 'N' Roll" on the suite "Swastikas on Parade".
History
With this song being part of a suite it does not have a lot of unique history with the group. Like with all other song from this album it is a cover of the 1972 hit "A Horse With no Name". The Residents likely heard this song quite a bit as experimental musicians who had just released their first record. with A Horse With no Name being a #1 hit in 1972 its was a easy choice for their 3rd album The Third Reich 'n Roll. This song has never been performed live by the group as is cut from all live version of "Swastikas on Parade". While not official their are three total versions of this song on the "Groovy Greats RDX" and the "Meet The Third Reich" bootleg.
