"Hanky Panky" is a song written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich for their group, the Raindrops. It was covered in The Residents 1976 album "The Third Reich 'N' Roll" on the suite "Swastikas on Parade".
History
With this song being part of a suite it does not have a lot of unique history with the group. Like with all other song from this album it is a cover of the 1964 hit Hanky Panky. The Residents likely heard this song quite a bit as college aged music fans in the 60s with it being a #1 hit in 1966. While The Residents are big fans of this album this specific song was only performed live a total of three times at each of the "Dog Stab!" shows. This live version is featured in the middle of the Third Reich 'N' Roll portion of the show and features new parts from Nolan Cook given the song a modern feel. Around the same The Residents also release "Groovy Great RDX" which features a shortened edit of this song.
