Max Steinway was supposedly the assistant and "life companion" of Bavarian avant-garde composer and music theorist N. Senada.

Steinway is known for having provided the "blueprint" to Senada's 1937 composition "Pollex Christi" to Senada's former proteges The Residents. Steinway was also credited as having transcribed the composition into MIDI format for use by the group in their 1997 recording of the piece.

In 2017, recently retired President of The Cryptic Corporation and long time engineer for The Residents Hardy Fox updated his website to include a list of aliases he had used in the group's work; "Max" was among them.[1] Earlier, Pollex Christi had been noted as an example of a "special solo project" by composer/keyboardist Charles Bobuck which had been credited to The Residents.[2]
