On September 1st 2026, The Residents officially began their Eskimo Live! tour with the first of two shows at the Blue Note Hawaii in Honolulu, Hawaii.
This was the group's first ever live show in Hawaii, and their third live performance of their 1979 concept album Eskimo, following a March 2024 appearance at Night of Ideas in San Francisco, and a more elaborate rendition of the album at Exotikon Exotica and Tiki Festival in Los Angeles in June 2025.
History
A week prior to the show, Homer Flynn of The Cryptic Corporation was interviewed by Hawaiian disc jockey DJ Nocturna. On the day of the show, Flynn was interviewed on the Hawaiian news/lifestyle program Living808 Hawaii to promote the two Honolulu performances.
As advertised, the show featured the tracks from The Residents' 1979 album Eskimo integrated with five new songs from the forthcoming mini-album Eskimo Folk Tales, including "The Barren Woman and the Worm", "A Tale of Two Tupilaqs" and "The Fool Who Made Friends with a Stone". [1]
The Residents appeared in the "abominable snowman" costumes previously seen at the Night of Ideas and Exotikon 3 performances, and were flanked by video screens on either side of the stage,[1] which displayed the videos created for the Eskimo DVD in 2002, and new videos (created with generative AI) for the Eskimo Folk Tales tracks.
Following the main Eskimo set, the show concluded with a shorter set of songs from Duck Stab!/Buster & Glen: "Sinister Exaggerator", "Hello Skinny" and "Constantinople".[1]
No merchandise was available for sale at this show; this was apparently because the two Honolulu dates were "add-ons" to The Residents' three night residency at the Blue Note in Tokyo, and the group's merchandise had been sent to Japan ahead of these shows.[2]
