"Santa Dog 2022" is a 7" vinyl single by The Residents, released exclusively via mail order through Cherry Red Records on December 9th 2022.
One of a series of 2022 releases highlighting The Residents' 50th Anniversary, the single contains the group's newest studio arrangement of "Fire", the opening track from their debut EP, Santa Dog, originally released in December 1972. The original version of "Fire" is featured as the B-side of "Santa Dog 2022".
"Santa Dog 2022" was originally proposed to be included on the Secret Records double vinyl compilation Santa Dog 50th Anniversary Collection, however the album was pressed early and released in May to avoid an expected eight month delay in vinyl production, and the new version of the song could not be included.[1]
The single was made available for pre-order on October 21st 2022 alongside the book Faceless Forever - A Residents Encyclopaedia; the book and single were also available for purchase as a bundle.
