Notes From Ralph

"What happened was The Residents were doing this show in Tromsø, and somehow or other, I think they got to Oslo and it was discovered that their equipment was still in LA. And so it was like total panic time. The thing was, they had already performed that material in Japan, they'd also done a six week American tour of that material. So they were very familiar and comfortable with the material at that point. So what they did... they started getting people to volunteer to give them equipment, to loan them equipment, and they started making new costumes in their hotel rooms, so they did the Tromsø show with borrowed equipment and brand new costumes that came from, I don't know, thrift stores or costume shops in Oslo, I guess. And after that, finally the equipment showed up, and they were able to do the tour with their own equipment. But the Tromsø show was, shall we say, very special, because it was all done on borrowed equipment. I think Snakefinger had his guitar, if I remember... But The Residents, they were using a lot of samplers at that time, they were using emulators, E-mu samplers, and they would just play the parts back that they would play on a regular keyboard instead of a sampler. And you know, The Residents' stuff is so weird, nobody noticed the difference."
