Notes from the Dimeadozen bootleg FLAC torrent

Trade CDR > EAC v0.99 > Cool Edit 2000 > TLH v2.4.1 > FLAC 8 > DIME > you
Big thanks to the original taper, and to the trader (our own omega) who hooked me up with a copy.
I mastered this 2011-05-28.
The base source was 1 big long track on a CDR, but the two halves of the show were quite different.
The first half was up high & had clipping in a buncha spots.
The second half wasn't clipped & indeed was generally at low levels.
So for the first half, I cut it all 3dB except for the first 6mins of the left channel (which was low compared to the right).
Next I did Cool Edit's clip restoration to fix those clipped spots.
Then I tried to balance the second half levels to the first, by bumping it all up 3dB / the right a further 2dB.
Next up, fixed clicks; this is an old CDR & there were many digi-artefacts, very light in sound, but they're there.
I did my best to remove them all, a hundred plus, one at a time.
They were only present in the first half; there were none in the second & I was quite glad about that.
(The other part took 90mins. to tidy up & I wasn't looking forward to another session that long - whew!)
Did a mini DIME edit (see below) off the beginning, removed 30sec silence off the end, cut it into tracks & SBE-fixed it to this fileset.
The EAC report is only retained to demonstrate a clean extract.
DIME edit:
As some tapers did, there was an added lead in of the singing Resident doing the talking intro from the 1977 Radio Special.
("Hello, everybody..." etc.)
That's official & hadta go.
NOTES
It's good stereo; starts fairly muddy & gets better over time.
And it seems like the "first half" tape source at one time was recorded over something else / bits of that bleed thru faintly.
And as you see above, there's lotsa edits.
Looks to me like someone cut cut cut to fit the best onto one C-60 tape at some point.
(Each of the "halves" described above were just seconds longer than 30min.)
That's how it came to me, so that's how it's goin' out to you.
