Chesty Vulva is the pseudonym of Colorado musician and "pop artist" Brian Salazar, who has recorded under the name since 2005, after "misunderstanding lyrics to a Morrissey song". Salazar has issued a handful of releases via Bandcamp; the project is perhaps best known for its cover of The Residents' "Hanging By His Hair", first released as an uncredited bonus track on the unofficial cover album Who Killed Ralph, Too? in November 2016.
The Residents announced their collaborative cover project I Am A Resident! in 2018, and Salazar submitted the Chesty Vulva cover of "Hanging By His Hair" to the project. The cover was ultimately chosen by The Residents to feature in several parts of the "mash-up" heard on the first disc of the CD edition of the album; the cover is also featured separately on the bonus disc.
Chesty Vulva's debut album, Subjects, followed in August 2018, and was released through Bandcamp as well as on limited edition color vinyl variants. Despite participating in the 2021 I Am A Resident! campaign for the Duck Stab! Alive! streaming TV special, the project appears to be dormant; its Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages have all been deleted or suspended as of 2022.
