The Boudisque 20th Anniversary Party

From RZWiki

The Boudisque 20th Anniversary Party was an event held to celebrate the anniversary of Boudisque Records in Amsterdam, Holland, on November 26th 1988.[note 1]

The event is notable for a special performance by The Residents, who debuted their Buckaroo Blues suite (later to be featured as the first part of their touring performance Cube-E in 1989).

History

Boudisque was a record store associated with The Residents European record label Torso. This event, on November 26th 1988, featured a special one-off performance by The Residents, who debuted their new suite ]Buckaroo Blues. This suite would later become the first part of the group's stage show Cube-E in 1989, and a studio recording would be released on CD by UWEB in the same year.

The group would again perform the suite a few months later on March 15th 1989, along with "Jambalaya" and "Burning Love", on the German television program Off Beat Night.[note 1]

Release

Excerpts from the performance can be seen in The Eyes Scream documentary video.

An excerpt released on a Torso employee exclusive VHS features The Residents performing a shortened arrangement of "Swastikas On Parade", as later heard on the Buckaroo Blues CD.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 Conflicting dates have been reported for The Boudisque 20th Anniversary Party and the Off Beat Night TV performance which followed. Some sources (such as the 2006 Cube-E box set) state that the Boudisque show was in November 1987 and that Off Beat Night followed in March 1988, however, a September 1988 UWEB newsletter gives the date of the Boudisque show as November 1988. This is likely the correct date, suggesting that Off Beat Night was filmed in March 1989.
