Talking Light, Santa Cruz, January 23rd 2010
On January 23rd 2010, The Residents performed the first show of their Talking Light tour at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz, California. As the first performance of the tour, the Talking Light show was still at a very developmental stage, lacking most of the monologues that would become mainstays in the later shows of the tour.
Promoted as "an experiment in new directions", the show was also the public introduction of The Residents' new, individual personae, Randy Rose (The Singing Resident), Charles Bobuck (the group's keyboardist) and Lionel Bob (the group's guitarist, and the first performance of the "Randy, Chuck and Bob" era which would span the next six years. This show also featured the first performance of the song "Pudding in Disguise", which would later be heard as part of the soundtrack to the DVD release Randy's Ghost Stories.
A recording of the full performance, titled Talking Light Live Santa Cruz, was released digitally via The Residents' online music download platform Robot Selling Device the day after the show, as the first part of the Talking Light (Live) download series, which would ultimately encompass sixty releases.

Introduction to Talking Light
Randy Rose: Hi! It's me - uh, Randy, singer for The Residents! This is, uh - Chuck over here on keyboards, and Bob on guitar. I'm sure that most of our long-time fans remember that there was always four of us. Well, I'm sorry to say, but Carlos has retired. He got tired of show business, and Carlos went back to Mexico, and now he's taking care of his mom. Okay, so, we wanted to invite you into our living room here so we could tell you... a few stories, and some of them get kinda spooky. The first one, now, is the Talking Light.
