I moved to San Francisco from New York in 1974 [...] One weekend I went to an art show in the civic center and saw some paintings by an artist named Irene Dogmatic, of Dogs in Bondage, and I was fascinated, and this being the 70s, I made myself a T-Shirt that said 'Irene Dogmatic,' hand-painted, figuring that someone would 'Oh! Do you know Irene Dogmatic?' and I'd say 'No, do you?' and I wore it to work one day, and the summer temp that we had there said, 'Oh do you know Irene Dogmatic? and I said 'no do you?' and they said, 'No, but I know The Residents.' and I said, 'Who the fuck are The Residents.' They said, 'Well, The Residents are shooting Vileness Fats tomorrow, and she's got a part in that, and if you'd like to meet her, then we'll put you in it too. So, they cast me in Vileness Fats as a one-armed dwarf waiter serving giant heads of foam rubber broccoli, and Irene Dogmatic was the mayor of Vileness Fats, and that was the first time I met her, captured for all time on screen, and I got to know Irene a little bit better, but that friendship didn't go anywhere.
