Appearance
1972 was the beginning of The Residents career, with the release of their Santa Dog EP in December, and the beginning of production on their film, Vileness Fats.
Timeline
January
- 19th: "A Horse with No Name" by British-American rock band America is released in the US. The single reaches #1 in the US charts.[1] It is later interpolated by The Residents' in their 1976 track. "Swastikas on Parade."
February
- 12th: Residents Uninc perform their final show, at the private Chris' Party event in Redwood, California.[2] It is also Snakefinger's last known collaboration with the group before the formation of Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers, a UK based pub rock band fronted by Snakefinger between 1972 and 1975.
April
- 9th: Molly Harvey is born
August
- 1st: Elvis Presley releases his cover of "Burning Love." The track was recorded on March 28th, 1972 following the release of Arthur Alexander's earlier version, and was Elvis' final top 10 hit. The Residents later covered the song in 1989 as part of their Off Beat Night performance, Cube-E live tour, and Elvis tribute album, The King & Eye.
- The "first edit" of the tape known as 1-10 (with a touch of 11) is compiled.[3]
October
November
- Kings Of The Robot Rhythm, Chilli Willi & The Red Hot Peppers' debut album, is released by Revelation Records. The album is co-written by Snakefinger and Martin Stone.
- The master tapes for the Santa Dog EP are compiled.[4][3]
December
- 20th: The Santa Dog EP, a faux-sampler 2x7" set by Residents Uninc, is released by Ralph Records in a limited quantity of 500. The EP is largely given to friends and celebrities, with personalised messages handwritten onto the sleeve.
- 24th: Chilli Willi & The Red Hot Peppers make their debut performance in the UK.
